Track: Liberty athletes win events at state meet

WACO — Going for their third straight state championship, the Liberty Christian Warriors had two athletes win events in the field portion of the TAPPS Class 5A state meet Friday.

Gymnastics: Two Achievers gymnasts headed to national meet

Brianna Richardson of Corinth and MacKenzie Packer of Lewisville have qualified for the USA Gymnastics Western National Championships this weekend in Boise, Idaho.

Pilot Point’s Miller wins gold at state

Pilot Point’s Hannah Miller, 15, competed last weekend in the Texas State Power Tumbling and Trampoline meet in Brownwood and finished first in double mini, second in tumbling and sixth in trampoline. The win earned Miller her sixth gold medal in state competition.

Motor sports: Team trying to improve through ‘start-and-park’

FORT WORTH — Pilot Point resident Robert Richardson Jr. is a Nationwide Series racer, but he was at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday night as his father’s R3 Motorsports team fielded a car in the Samsung Mobile 500.

Benefit tournament set for Saturday

Bowling: Double Oak’s Barnes rolls 300

Chris Barnes of Double Oak rolled a perfect 300 game in the the second round to advance to Sunday’s final, where he lost to Jason Blemonte at the PBA Geico Shark Open in Las Vegas.

Motor sports: Pilot Point’s Richardson making run at Daytona

Pilot Point resident Robert Richardson Jr. is attempting to make his third consecutive Daytona 500, and his quest begins today with two laps of pole qualifying in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Gymnastics: TWU vaults over Air Force in opener

The TWU gymnastics team opened the 2012 season with an 191.450-188.200 victory over visiting Air Force on Saturday night at Kitty Magee Arena.
